We're Back!

It's been a while—so long that our email provider actually dropped us! But I have a good reason: I spent 2022–24 earning my Masters degree, researching the design of technology for musicians who learn by ear.

Now that I've wrapped up my degree (and caught up on product work), I'm excited to reconnect. You might have noticed that 3 minor updates went out this year—our most ever!

Quick heads up: If you're reading this on the web, please use the form below to resubscribe and get future newsletters in your inbox.

Thanks for your patience and for continuing to support Capo. I'm looking forward to sharing what's next.

Tips & Tricks

Where's the Pitch Adjustment?

Pitch correction is a core feature in Capo. But it's not used by everyone, so it didn't make the default toolbar set. If you're having trouble finding it, don't fret! Right-click the toolbar, open the customization sheet, and you can drag the pitch adjustment item wherever you want it.

Hidden Gem: The Freezer!

In Capo 4.6, you can now add a toggle for the Freezer effect to your toolbar. When enabled, you'll hear the same "frozen audio" that plays while you scrub the playhead, but now you can leave it running while you hunt for the right note on your instrument!

Ear Learning

Your Kind Words

When you share positive reviews on the App Store, it helps keep our motivational batteries charged. We really appreciate it, because it serves as a reminder of the real-world impact that our work has on your life. Thank you so much for sharing!

★★★★★ - Indispensable tool for teaching

Capo has replaced all of my older “slow downer” applications for audio. The visual interface lets me use the features - pitch, key, speed, etc. - quickly to work out songs and guitar breaks. I LOVE LOVE LOVE how it syncs between my Mac, iPad and iPhone. I can prepare a track on my Mac and use it when teaching on my iPad.

★★★★★ - Great for practicing!

It’s great for slowing down songs without losing much fidelity and learning the song by ear. I’ve been using it to take out hard riffs by ear with odd time signatures. Capo is definitely my go to. I love the loop feature and being able to zoom in on the wav file to get a precise loop going.

★★★★★ - Such a valuable tool!!

I grew up dropping the needle over and over to learn guitar parts and solos. It was painstaking and difficult but that was the way we did it. Today, Capo makes the process of learning parts seamless and so easy — input the source material, take control of tempo, key, etc and set up regions for looping, all of which takes seconds to do. Amazing. Also a great tool for developing original music.
