Moving On Up

I have moved on up in the Macintosh world. Clearly, the upgrades to gonzo didn't quite make me happy enough, and I was left wanting more…

So, today I got more. I purchased a 15" PowerBook G4 using the funds from FuzzMeasure's development. It felt great to buy a machine funded completely by the development I do part-time.

I stand amazed at how well this machine runs when compared to the iBook. Obviously, having a slightly faster bus speed, and faster RAM makes for a substantial speed increased. Of course, I only spent a few hours with it so far, so my judgement's pretty skewed towards the positive.

With this new machine, the increased work required to get FuzzMeasure 1.4 finished will certainly go much more smoothly. The iBook just started making me nuts when trying to launch FuzzMeasure in the debugger, and it took forever. Also, stepping single lines of code would take more than a second with each step. Now, everything runs so much faster, and I haven't even put my 1GB stick of RAM into the machine yet!

I may or may not speak more about this new machine after a little while longer with it. I couldn't find a good developer's perspective of Apple's notebook offerings online, so I might just have to fill that void here…
