Taking it easy

• Chris Liscio

The weather's getting better where I live, so I'm spending more time on things that are necessary this time of year. Cutting the lawn, cleaning my barbecue, washing the car, and other things that need to be done. This stuff has been completely neglected while FuzzMeasure 1.2 was moving towards its release.

Now, I'm certainly not spending nearly as much time on FuzzMeasure as before, which is actually a good thing. It gave me a bit of time to throw together a test speaker using a tweeter and woofer that one of my testers gave me. I will try to get a full write-up put together to demonstrate all sorts of things I encounter in this project.

The cabinet is built with no seals – it leaks air like mad. It's also ported, but the port is not tuned. Do you see where I'm going with this? I'm going to take this cabinet and use FuzzMeasure to guide me to correct all the issues with my construction.

Also, I haven't purchased any parts for a crossover yet, since I will use FuzzMeasure to give me hints about how and where to place the crossover point. From there, I will build the crossover, and keep iterating until the response is fairly flat.

What I will probably do, is create a subfolder under FuzzMeasure on this weblog, and post information about the speaker in there. That way, those of you following the FuzzMeasure RSS feed will catch information about the speaker as well.

I hope that 1.2.1 won't be too far off. I still can't get this one crashing bug to trigger, but I've added a few slight UI changes and a few fixes for Tiger. If I can't get the crash to happen while measuring my test cabinet, I will have to push 1.2.1 out as it stands, and keep my eyes open.
