Tiger Breakage!

• Chris Liscio

Tiger manages to do a great deal of Jean Claude Van Damage to FuzzMeasure. Here are a few things that were noticed:

Slightly more noise in the frequency response display than with Panther. I'm not sure yet if this is related to drawing, or new CoreAudio stuff that I don't know about.

Borders are not drawn around the little thumbnail images in the measurement record collection.

Copy & Paste screws up the text labels on the graph axes (80 90 100 etc becomes k0 90 100 …)

Given this, I will start building my todo list for 1.2.1. I do not suggest you run out and grab Tiger just yet, unless you can tolerate a few months of adjustment, or have a spare drive to work off of. One of my testers noticed problems with Photoshop and Illustrator in Tiger (copy & paste appear to be broken completely), and I'm sure there are a good handful of other problems to be found.

Luckily, I just got a hold of an external HDD enclosure (further in the red…sigh), so I can throw Tiger on it and start plugging away at the bugs. I really wish that Apple didn't require a $500/yr ADC membership to give developers access to Tiger.

I remember acquiring Windows XP RC1 from Microsoft for a total cost of $15, which gave me plenty of time to work out potential issues with my system. I had to wait all the way until the Tiger release just to get my hands on it, only to find a handful of problems. I wouldn't have even minded paying the full $125 to get an early taste, but I guess Apple had to keep it under wraps and all that. Maybe 10.4 is their release candidate? :)
