Much Better

I was contacted by an M-Audio support person yesterday, and he helped me through a few suggestions to try and get my device working properly. Sure enough, since I performed the magic incantation, the Transit USB has been behaving itself! I will have to update after playing with it more, but so far I've beat it up more than I have in the past (in terms of running measurements, (un-)plugging devices repeatedly, and inserting/removing the device) with much more success.

Essentially, the process involves manually removing the driver before installing the new one, and fixing your permissions to ensure that all is kosher with your system while it's running. They really should provide a tool to automate the removal of the device driver (even if it has to be a shell script) if it fixes a problem that I would imagine is quite common.

I really do hope that this device turns out to work properly in the long run, so that I can recommend a low-cost product to use along with my software. I especially want to ensure that my users can enjoy great measurement results on a laptop, since my software becomes so even more useful once you go mobile with it! Also, I would hate to think that I bought a lemon. ;)
