Slight frustration...

• Chris Liscio

I have not had very much time to spend on the project over the last few days. This has been frustrating for me, but I think the extra time away from development has allowed me to mull over a few details.

My frustration seems to have disappeared this morning when I realized what I've actually accomplished while not actually sitting down and "doing work" at the machine. My logged hours since the weekend amounts to a big goose egg, yet I feel as if I did weeks of design work and planning over that period. Lots of 'figgerin' has been done and I am starting to get a better grasp of the direction I should take.

If I remember correctly, I am up to about 52 hours of total work. Lots more time than it sounds like, since I only log productive time. I read somewhere that people get less than 3 hours of productive work a day (averaged over the week) in a typical office job (understandable, due to the amount of distractions and such), which would put me at 17.3 days, or 3 business weeks plus two business days. I'm almost at a man-month! ;) I started working on all of this around June 4th, with a month off in between to move, which means it has taken almost three months to come up with a man month of productive work. I have to really ramp up if I want to get a release out around the time I'm thinking it'll happen.

A great majority of the time I have spent on the project during the last few weeks has been dedicated to learning activities. Since this project is especially important to me personally, I have found that my retention skills have been outstanding over the weekend. We will see how well that I can apply what I've learned during the next few days that I work on the project. I think that with my fresh Cocoa Bindings knowledge, I will be able to complete a substantial amount of work towards one of my first releases by the end of the weekend.

As usual, we will have to see just how much my optimism during the week actually translates into work done over the weekend. :)

There's so much more I could write here, yet so little time… :P
